Amazingly, less than one year after Connor Stalions was named the key perpetrator of the Michigan Wolverines sign-stealing scandal, Stalions is back in football.

On Thursday, William McMichael, the newly appointed head coach of Detroit Mumford's football team, announced that Stalions would take over as the team's defensive coordinator.

During Michigan's journey to win the national championship last October, the NCAA initiated an inquiry into the Michigan football team, revealing Stalions as the mastermind behind a comprehensive network responsible for sending individuals to scout games of Michigan's future rivals.

These scouts used tickets bought by Stalions over a span of three years to secretly record the opposing teams' signals. Although in-game scouting is permissible, attending the games of forthcoming opponents for scouting purposes violates regulations.

This probe resulted in the Big Ten's decision to suspend the then-Michigan football coach, Jim Harbaugh—who is currently with the Los Angeles Chargers—for the last three games of the regular season. Harbaugh has refuted any involvement in the signal-theft plot.

Additionally, Harbaugh faced a suspension for the first three games of the season imposed by the school itself, stemming from a different NCAA probe into illegal recruiting practices.

On May 3, 2022, Stalions was brought on board as a "player personnel analyst," with a yearly salary of $56,100, according to a memorandum of understanding. Following the Big Ten's confirmation of the NCAA's investigation into the program on October 20, Michigan suspended Stalions with pay.

He went through a disciplinary review on November 1 to address his lack of cooperation with both the University of Michigan and NCAA's investigations, as noted in his personnel records from Michigan, where he was informed he might be fired. Subsequently, he tendered his resignation on November 3.

Netflix is set to release a documentary titled "Sign Stealer" on August 27. The documentary will delve into the controversy surrounding the alleged signaling scheme and feature interviews with Stalions, among others.

The documentary "Sign Stealer" marks the first public appearance of Stalions since the scandal. It offers insight through extensive interviews with him, dating back to his attendance at the national championship game in Houston.
