Betting on Notre Dame football is smart money for the 2024 college football season

Notre Dame is heading into a pivotal year three under head coach Marcus Freeman . The expectation is centering around a College Football Playoff berth, and opportunity to make a run in the tournament. Anything less is not acceptable for the Irish.

With an extremely talented roster, impressive coaching staff, and a less than daunting 2024 schedule, the expectations for the Irish are very high. It’s not overly surprising that Vegas does seem to be high on the Irish right now, currently projecting their season total at 10.5 wins according to BetMGM.

That is an interesting line, which obviously suggests that Notre Dame should be quite good in 2024. When you look at their schedule, there are really four games that fans will be keeping their eyes on closest. Those are the season opener at Texas A&M (Aug. 31), home against Louisville (Sep. 28), hosting Florida State (Nov. 9) and at USC (Nov. 30). Those will be the pillar games of the 2024 season.

In order for Notre Dame to hit the over, they would have to win three of the four games in that stretch. Anything less, then the under is going to hit in a 12-game regular season obviously. For those betting that line, you will have a really good feeling about whether you are going to win or not after that first game against the Aggies.

If Notre Dame wins that one, it could be a very special season.

On BetMGM, the odds are set at -165 for Notre Dame to make the playoffs, which is a great sign. That means that the Irish have a very good chance to do so, at least according to Vegas. Those odds makers tend to have an opinion that matters highly, clearly having data or intel that backs up that opinion.

With the expansion to a 12-team playoff format, making the playoffs doesn’t mean quite as much as it once did. While the money is on the Irish to make the dance, the odds for them to win it all are still a longshot at +2000. Could Notre Dame shock the betting world and win their first championship since 1988? Only time will tell.

As those lines currently stand, throwing a little money on those championship odds could be worth the risk when considering the potential payout. The over on the season win total also feels like a good bet, but the line may not be attractive enough to lay down some action.
