The cat might have been out of the bag for new Vols football commit David Sanders, Jr. with the presence of a legendary Tennessee athlete

The Tennessee Vols were the leader in the clubhouse for the commitment of Providence Day School (Charlotte, NC) five-star offensive tackle David Sanders, Jr., per a number of recruiting experts.

On Saturday, Sanders, Jr. proved those experts correct by announcing his commitment to Josh Heupel and the Vols.

However, for those in attendance, they probably already knew where the talented offensive tackle was going based upon the presence of a very prominent former Tennessee athlete in attendance at Sanders, Jr.'s ceremony.  That would be Charlotte Hornets forward Grant Williams, who also attended Providence Day.

Williams and Sanders, Jr. talked before the ceremony and snapped a photo together which might have been a little bit awkward in retrospect if the latter had ended up choosing to go somewhere besides Tennessee.

Williams came to Knoxville from Providence Day as a part of the 2016 class, but he came with far less pomp and circumstance than Sanders, Jr. will be.  Williams was ranked as the 189th overall player, 45th power forward, and sixth player in North Carolina per 247 Sports' composite rankings.

However, Williams ended up going down as one of the greatest players in Tennessee basketball history.  He was named first-team All-American and SEC player of the year in 2019 as the Vols spent almost a month of the season ranked #1 and made it to the Sweet 16.  He would end up getting drafted by the Boston Celtics in the first round of the 2019 NBA Draft, eventually playing in the NBA Finals in 2022.

With Sanders, Jr.'s skillset, he could be the next great player from Providence Day School to come to the University of Tennessee and become one of the best players in the country.  Tennessee fans are counting on that in the coming years.
