Bills’ former first rounder looks like he’s in Pro Bowl form after huge game against Steelers

The Buffalo Bills starters were supposed to get plenty of looks in this preseason game, with Sean McDermott saying they were going to play about a quarter and a half. Maybe because of excessive rain in the area, Josh Allen didn't play.

That didn't stop the Bills from putting other starters out there, and Bills' defensive end Greg Rousseau made the most of it by dominating the Steelers starting offensive line for 2.5 sacks and seemingly constant pressure over the first three drives on defense.

Greg Rousseau showcasing that he's ready to break out

Rousseau's strong night started in the first drive, as "Groot," simply bull rushed offensive tackle Broderick Jones on his way to sacking Russell Wilson. It was a strong display that made a quick impact.

The first sack of the night was just the beginning. Rousseau was continuously in the backfield in pass rushing opportunities, and also looked strong in run support. His second sack of the night was equally, if not more, impressive than the first. Once again, Jones got the worst of it.

Rousseau is due for a pay day

Earlier this offseason, the Bills picked up the fifth-year option for Rousseau, but it's time to start thinking about what a longterm contract could look like for him.

Last year, Rousseau logged 5.0 sacks. It would be smart for the Bills to get an extension done sooner rather than later. If Rousseau puts together a major breakout campaign this year, the price tag for his services will only go up.

Getting after the passer was a strength of this roster last year, with the team logging a sack rate of 8.2%, according to Team Rankings. That rate was the fifth-highest in the league. Buffalo will aim to continue that trend, and Rousseau figures to be a big part of that goal. He's slated to be a starter at one edge spot, with A.J. Epenesa slotted in on the opposite edge. If Rousseau continues this dominance into the regular season, the Bills will will be thrilled with his development.
