The New Orleans Saints' 2024 NFL Draft class hasn't played in games that count quite yet. Even still, there is a confidence in the group that is pretty intriguing for the black and gold.

One day three selection has impressed during practice and can lock down a roster spot over the next couple of weeks, entering the 2024 regular season.

Saints rookie DL Khristian Boyd got overlooked in 2024 NFL Draft

Boyd was widely expected to go between round three and five in this year's draft. Instead, he continued to slide round after round. The Saints clearly saw value in him, taking the lineman in round six.

Boyd played over half of the defense's snaps for the Saints in their first preseason game. We will see if that workload remains the same or decreases against the San Francisco 49ers in preseason Week 2.

Boyd's physicality and strength have been on display consistently in drills for Dennis Allen's unit. His run defense is the best aspect of his game, and at his size, that can make a difference for even an NFL defense.

The NFL seemingly forgot about Boyd during the middle rounds of this year's draft. The Saints took advantage and their depth will be rewarded because of it.

We will see if his role develop into a three-tech or nose tackle. Boyd's size lends itself to the latter, but he moves well enough to take some 3T reps, too. Only time will tell for the young Saints defensive lineman.

Expect to see Boyd make the 53-man roster to begin this season. He deserves the nod as a backup to Khalen Saunders and Bryan Bresee.
