The one Lions player that's going to be the absolute hardest player to cut, but is probably getting cut

We're a week away from the hardest time that any NFL coach is going to have this summer. We're talking about cut down day. Dan Campbell and company are going to have to cut this Detroit Lions team down from 90 players to 53. Some cuts will be easy and others are going to be very hard. There's one that's going to be harder than all of them combined.

This year that has to be undrafted rookie receiver Isaiah Williams. The guy has given you everything that he has and everything that you asked for. He looked good in camp and had two big preseason games. He racked up a team leading 10 receptions for 106 yards in two games and even looked good as a return man.

The Lions have been dying for a receiver to step up and Williams did just that. The problem is that the wrong receiver stepped up. I know that sounds weird, but what the Lions really needed was for one of the X guys to step up. Instead they got a big step up from the most redundant receiver on the roster.

Williams is a slot receiver and the Lions don't need another slot receiver. They have arguably the best one in the game in Amon-Ra St. Brown. Then behind him they have Kalif Raymond who plays a lot of slot receiver as well. Raymond also cancels Williams out on the return end of things too.

It's not just St. Brown and Raymond, the Lions can get a lot of YAC ability and things Williams brings to the table from Jahmyr Gibbs and Sione Vaki too.

It really sucks, but there's just so many guys that ahead of him that can already do what he can do and the Lions need a totally different style of receiver to make this team. All of this likely means that a guy that really earned a spot is probably not going to get one. At least not here.

Williams will most likely get cut on August 27th and the Lions will most likely not get him back. He seems like a good candidate to not clear waivers and get claimed by another team that has no problem adding him to their 53-man roster. You hate to see it for the Lions, but you love to see it for the player.

It's going to be a hard one, but it's got to be done at the end of the day. No receivers really earned a spot on this team outside of the obvious guys. It's been a really big failure for the Lions this offseason. The team could use the roster spot from guys that can contribute now.
