Other outside pass rusher options the Chicago Bears could explore after striking out on trading for Matt Judon

The Chicago Bears found themselves in some interesting trade headlines last week after former Pro Bowl pass rusher Matt Judon was traded to the Atlanta Falcons.

The Bears were one of the finalist to land the disgruntled edge rusher but ultimately the deal didn't work out for whatever the reason might have been. Just because the team struck out swinging doesn't mean they won't come back to the plate.

"I think it's the same that it's always been, being opportunistic to bring players in to improve our roster," general manager Ryan Poles said Monday while on the Hoge & Jahns Show. "When that door gets cracked in terms of a player being available, we're going to investigate it and see does it make sense for us."

With that being said, the Bears aren't necessarily in a big-game hunt for specifically a top pass rusher, but are more so looking into any potential option that could be available. However, here are four big name pass rushers who could be obtainable.

    Haason Reddick

During his sit down with Hoge & Jahns, Poles laid out the following factors that would have to be met before bringing in a player via trade: compensation, happiness from a contract standpoint, and the player's fit in the locker room culture.

Those are things that New York Jets' general manager Joe Douglas obviously didn't take into account before trading for edge rusher Haason Reddick. Since making the deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, Reddick has not reported to the team and has already requested another trade.

While the Jets remain stern that they won't trade their new pass rusher they haven't even seen yet, each passing day cracks the door slightly more. The catalyst for the issues in New York stim from Reddick's desire to land a new contract with his new team, one that would pay him top money at the position.

The Bears have plenty of cap space to bring in a player like Reddick and give him a new contract, but at the same time, the Bears' front office wouldn't want to find themselves in a similar situation the Jets are currently stuck in.

    Joe Tryon-Shoyinka

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers former first round selection could soon find himself a new home after his team refused to pick up his fifth-year option. The 25-year-old is a much younger option for the Bears to consider but has still been productive.

Tryon-Shoyinka has recorded 4.0, 4.0, and 5.0 sacks in his three seasons since being selected with the 32nd overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. After drafting YaYa Diaby and Chris Braswell, Tryon-Shoyinka could find himself with a diminished role, even after the team recently released Randy Gregory.

Tryon-Shoyinka has been dealing with a neck injury this summer, but Buccaneers' head coach Todd Bowels confirmed today that he is expected to be back by Week 1.

A change of scenery could be ideal for the young pass rusher along with playing opposite a top pass rusher once again to help create favorable looks up-front.

    Joey Bosa

While this door isn't officially open yet, this is where being opportunistic comes into play. When the Bears traded for wide receiver Keenan Allen earlier this offseason, no one even knew that option was available to look into.

The same could soon be said for 4x Pro Bowler Joey Bosa. If Bosa doesn't fit into the Chargers long-term plans under new head coach Jim Harbaugh, the time would soon come to move him. After playing cap gymnastics to keep both Bosa and Khalil Mack on the roster, the decision to move on from Bosa after this season would still save the Chargers over $20 million dollars.

This would be more of a down-the-road option for the Bears after rolling with the pieces already on the roster for the 2024 season before making a move next summer.

    Yannick Ngakoue

This is a door the Bears have been able to keep ajar throughout the entire offseason. Over the weekend, NFL reporter Albert Breer noted in a throwaway line that the Bears have remained in contact with Yannick Ngakoue.

This shouldn't come as a surprise. Ngakoue has always seemed like a last resort option for the Bears if the team decided they needed to make an addition to the defensive line heading into the season.

Ngakoue has recently been cleared to play after suffering a broken ankle while playing for the Bears on a one-year deal last season and has already made visits with other teams . The Bears would have to act quick if they want to bring him back as a veteran leader off the edge before they get sniped by another team once again.
