Hey look, my two worlds collided. If you follow my work, you know I'm a fan of, and cover, the Oregon Ducks and the Buffalo Bills, so this signing is particularly fun for me.

With Mitch Trubisky out for "multiple weeks" with a hamstring injury , as Sean McDermott put it, the Bills needed to bring in some added depth at quarterback for the preseason finale. Shortly after the media availability where McDermott indicated that the Bills would need another thrower of footballs, it was announced that they had signed Anthony Brown Jr., who was last on the Las Vegas Raiders roster.

Anthony Brown Jr. is an interesting choice for camp depth

I'll give the Bills credit, at least this has the potential to be fun.

Before diving into Brown as a player, let's keep this in context. The third preseason game is expected to be nothing but depth guys for McDermott and the rest of the front office to evaluate.

"You know, initially, the plan was the play the ones this week, but because of the injuries and the lack of availability, we're going to take the ones out and play the other guys, and take a good look at them. it should be a good opportunity for them to put their best foot forward, and for us to have a strong evaluation of that part of the roster," McDermott said.

So, while Ben DiNucci will see the first reps in this preseason, Brown is simply getting an opportunity to put some film out there as he continues to chance his dream in the NFL. There's not a lot to read into when it comes to the signing, other than the fact that the Bills brought in a camp arm because they need someone to play.

Now, that said, Brown is fun – or at least he was in college. Brown is 26 years old, standing 6'3" and roughly 225 lbs. His 2021 season at Oregon saw him acting in a true dual-threat role, averaging 213.5 passing yards and 47 rushing yards per game. He was plenty dynamic, leading the Ducks to a 10-win season. In 2022, while with the Ravens, Brown went 10/15 for 117 passing yards in the second half of a preseason game as an undrafted free agent.

There likely won't be much of an impact, if any, for Brown when it comes to the Bills roster decisions , but let's hope he's able to make a mark and find some success.
