Xavier Legette takes a strong stance against recent questionable decisions by Dave Canales

Wide receiver Xavier Legette, the Carolina Panthers' first-round selection, the preseason matters .

It also matters to head coach Dave Canales as well. However, through the first two preseason games, Canales elected to rest most of Carolina's impact players . The added rest has left Legette wanting more. The rookie is begging to get out on the field.

" I really want to play," Legette said. "We are taking it day by day. When it is my time, my time is going to come. I'm feeling pretty good."

Canales' approach to the preseason has left several with questions. The Panthers were one of the worst teams in the league last season, finishing with a 2-15 record. Bryce Young struggled to look like the No. 1 overall pick for most of the year and the offense sputtered more than shined.

Still, with all the changes made throughout the offseason, Canales has elected to not play the players who will define much of the 2024 season.

Carolina is 0-2 in the preseason, with its latest loss coming at the hands of the New York Jets, 15-12.

As for Legette, he has dealt with numerous injuries throughout the summer. A hamstring string kept him out of a large portion of organized team activities. He then hurt his foot, though that injury proved not as serious.

Legette has practiced since his latest injury . However, he has yet to play in a game, which is clearly what he wants the most.

"He's doing great," Canales said last week. "It’s a day-to-day thing. And we’re just trying to get the discomfort out of the foot completely, clear it up before we start getting him into fast change-of-direction things. So the in-line stuff is great. And we’ll be smart about that and bring him along.”
