Bill Belichick says the QB situation in Pittsburgh is the least of the Steelers’ problems

After a couple of preseason duds by the Pittsburgh Steelers, some seem to believe the sky is falling.

Particularly at the QB position, where neither Justin Fields nor Russell Wilson has instilled confidence in the fanbase, yet.

But according to arguably the best HC of all time, the QB situation is the least of Pittsburgh's problems.

    Belichick Points Offensive Issues

“I think they have bigger problems than the quarterback position," Bill Belichick told The Pat McAfee Show on Monday. "The defense is, you know, a pretty solid unit. The offensive line had a hard time being consistent there. They lost the tackles. They have a rookie center, and the guards, they've had some issues too in the preseason games. They need to get the running game going, they have good backs, they need to get those back started. Russell's good out of the pocket. But I think the problems are bigger than Russell Wilson. I think it's really offensive line and the running game."

If you watched Saturday's game against the Buffalo Bills, arguing with Coach Belichick is impossible. The team's performance was labeled as J.V. by Coach Tomlin after the game, and he admitted that he addressed the unit and said that was simply unacceptable.

Coach Belichick also pointed out that the last thing Coach Tomlin wants is a QB who will turn the ball over. Russell Wilson surely didn't blow anyone away in his debut , but Justin Fields was a part of two fumbles in Week 1 and had a pass against the Bills that should have been picked off.

To be fair to Russell Wilson, it's hard to give him a fair evaluation after just one preseason game where he was under duress all night, but he did go 0-5 in terms of putting up points.

With Justin Fields, he was a jolt of energy, but his reps mostly came against second and third-teamers, and the team still only mustered three points.

But what needs to be pointed out, is that at this time last year, the Steelers and Kenny Pickett were the belles of the preseason ball, with some going as far as to label Pittsburgh a darkhorse contender for the Super Bowl.

So preseason is often a facade, and Steelers fans are hoping that's the case in 2024.
