The Pittsburgh Steelers are receiving disapproval from every corner of the NFL world.

Following a dud of a preseason performance against the Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh's offense has looked lifeless through two weeks of exhibitions.

That has raised concerns and questions about the state of the Steelers, with Mike Tomlin being the brunt of criticism for some.

    Colin Cowherd Calls Out Tomlin

"They're [Pittsburgh Steelers] not the biggest spenders, but they're not cheap, and yet defensively, they're always elite," Cowherd said on Monday's edition of The Herd with Colin Cowherd . "Yet they're completely, utterly inept on one side of the ball. That's on the head coach. He's run through coordinators, he's run through quarterbacks. That's on Mike Tomlin. They are awful...

"...If you're wondering why Justin Fields looks skittish and Russell is Captain Checkdown this weekend, they don't wanna get hit....

"...So this is Mike Tomlin's culture. It's his locker room, it's his offensive coordinator, it's his responsibility."

Here's the thing, Cowherd isn't necessarily wrong. Since the end of Big Ben's tenure, the offense has been a mess, and it's been that way for nearly half a decade now.

But if this isn't an overreaction, I don't know what is.

Cowherd was one of the people who were bullish on the Steelers and their offense around this time last year.

Why? Because Kenny Pickett and co. were lighting up defenses in the preseason and looking like the second coming of the Greatest Show on Turf .

How did that translate to the regular season?

Oh yeah, that's right, OC Matt Canada was fired at the midway point and Kenny Pickett was traded after effectively being benched for Mason Rudolph.

So if we should learn anything, it's that the preseason is a facade. That's not to say Pittsburgh's offense has looked good or doesn't bear concern, but to label the team dead on arrival is a little rich when Arthur Smith hasn't unveiled the offense, Pittsburgh hasn't named a starting QB and there is still a potential trade to be made at the WR position , is a little rich.

So take a deep breath, everyone. If the offense is bad, you will know, and you will know quickly, as Pittsburgh travels to Atlanta to take on the Falcons in less than three weeks.
