New Cowboys player just answered one of the biggest and most concerning questions surrounding team

New Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Jordan Phillips expects to hit the ground running with the team even though he admits he was surprised to be traded within the division from the New York Giants.
"I've played with some coaches that are from the (Mike Zimmer coaching) tree," Phillips told reporters on Monday. "It's like riding the bike."
Interestingly enough, Phillips mentioned scheme fit as the reason why he was traded away from the Giants. With Zimmer's defense , he expects to make plays off of the three-technique, which goes a long way in answering one of the biggest concerns we had about the 53-man roster's build: Behind Osa Odighizuwa, there was virtually no defensive lineman on the team who looked like a viable option to play the three-technique spot on the line.
"The three-technique comes off the ball (on the Cowboys' scheme) and they get to make a lot of plays and that's what I like to do," Phillips said, who also brought up that in New York, he had to do a lot more reads from the trenches, which slowed down his play, and he found it difficult to adapt to as a 10-year vet.
Phillips' comments are a big deal because his build at 6-6, 330 pounds, it could suggest he's a true nose tackle. Heck, he's probably heavier than Mazi Smith right now. When the Cowboys traded for him, it appeared like he was a natural backup for Smith, leaving concerns about the lack of depth behind Odighizuwa at three-technique unanswered. But now that Phillips is looking like that guy, we at least know the Cowboys are betting on him to fill that role.
At the same time, it could mean Dallas is comfortable betting on seventh-round rookie Justin Rogers to be a part of the nose tackle rotation.
Phillips knows his role won't be limited to playing football. Just like Ndamukong Suh did for him in 2015 when he was only a rookie, he expects to share his knowledge with teammates, including Odighizuwa.
"Osa is a young guy, it's his fourth year and that's kind of the time where you start hitting your stride, hopefully he can have a breakout year," Phillips added. "Hopefully I can give some tips and tricks to get some more sacks, more TFLs."
