Last season did not end how the Ohio State Buckeyes wanted it to and it has shaped their plans for the 2024 season. If the Buckeyes had won it all, there is no way all of the draft-eligible players would have come back for another season.

They did. And they have big plans for what will be their final year in Columbus . Ohio State returned much of their roster while being aggressive in the transfer portal. The result was the Buckeyes making out with one of the best rosters on paper in college football.

In a recent piece with The Athleti c, head coach Ryan Day did not shy away from what is going on in Columbus. It appears that everyone has a common goal in mind and it is not hard to tell what it is.

“They came back for a reason,” Day said. We are thinking big, they’re thinking big, we know what’s at stake and we want to do everything we can to have them leave a legacy behind and a bunch of hardware.”

Wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, running back TreVeyon Henderson, defensive ends Jack Sawyer and J.T. Tuimoloau, cornerback Denzel Burke, linebacker Cody Simon, defensive tackles Tyliek Williams and Ty Hamilton, and safety Lathan Ransom were amongst the players to suit up for another year.

In the transfer portal, the Buckeyes brought in the top running back from Ole Miss Quinshon Judkins. Ohio State’s starter Will Howard is a Kansas State transfer and center Seth McLaughlin transferred from Alabama. Ohio tight end Will Kacmarek is going to have a role.

After losing to Michigan last season and failing to reach the College Football Playoff, the expectation is for Ohio State to accomplish both of those plus some. Ryan Day has made the National Championship while the head coach of the Buckeyes, but he has yet to win it all. The chase to do just that starts in a couple of weeks when the team hosts Akron to begin their 2024 season.
