Philadelphia Eagles waste no time cutting veteran tight end C.J. Uzomah

Final roster cuts are not until next week, but the Philadelphia Eagles are wasting no time.

On Wednesday, the Eagles moved on from tight end CJ Uzomah and replaced him with offensive lineman Jason Poe.

Uzomah signed with the Eagles back at the start of NFL free agency in March with hopes of bouncing back from an MCL injury that he suffered last fall. But after he did not outshine his competition in training camp, it appears the Birds made an early decision on him.

That means the Eagles must be happy with Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra leading their tight end room. It could also mean that E.J. Jenkins may have won a roster spot.

Where the Eagles could use the extra help, however, is along the offensive line as they deal with injuries. And that's where Poe comes in.

Veteran guard Tyler Steen (ankle) and rookie guard Trevor Keegan (hip) could miss out on the preseason finale, so Poe could offer some extra stability at the position.

Poe isn't a new name to Philly as he had previously spent time with the Birds before they waived him early this month.

He was initially signed by the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent out of Mercer University back in 2022. He spent last season on the New York Jets practice squad before signing a futures deal with the Eagles in January.

The Eagles are set to play their last preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday where we will see Poe in action and find out if he has any potential to make the 53-man roster or practice squad.
