Newest ESPN mock draft shows Titans QB Will Levis the door for another controversial college quarterback

ESPN apparently isn't expecting much to go right for the Tennessee Titans in 2024 based on their newest 2025 NFL mock draft.

NFL insider/draft analyst Field Yates revealed his new mock draft on Wednesday and he has the Titans selecting Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders with the No. 4 overall selection.

(Note: Yates used ESPN's Football Power Index to determine the order in his mock draft.)

From ESPN : If Tennessee is picking this high, it would -- like with the Panthers -- at least invite questions about whether to address quarterback again. I would argue yes for the Titans, though, as Will Levis being a second-round pick last year makes the financial side of this situation far less complicated than Carolina's predicament, allowing them to move on from him. Sanders could wind up in the conversation for the first overall pick of the draft, as he's an absolutely surgical pocket passer. He completed 69.3% of his throws last season and threw just three interceptions. He has great arm strength and pristine accuracy.

It's far too early to be thinking about the 2025 NFL Draft (so much will inevitably change over the next few months that it's impossible to have any idea of what the draft will look like next spring), but I think it's fair to say that this is a very unlikely scenario for the Titans.

For starters, the Titans won't be this bad. Even if quarterback Will Levis fails to have a breakout season, the rest of the team will be good enough to make this team a threat to reach the playoffs. It's hard to see them picking in the top five (or even in the top 10).

And speaking of Levis, giving up on the former Kentucky quarterback after his first full year as a starter (in a new offense nonetheless) would be quite a surprise. Last season was essentially year zero for Levis. He got his feet wet as an NFL quarterback, and he had some big moments (like the comeback win against the Miami Dolphins). But he wasn't exactly in a great offensive situation. The Titans' offensive line didn't play well. And the offense, in general, didn't have much of an identity (though we saw flashes of what it could be with Levis' talent).

In 2024, Levis will be playing for an offensive minded head coach in Brian Callahan. And considering that this is Callahan's first head coaching gig, there should be some patience for him and for Levis in 2024. There will likely be some growing pains as they find their groove. But even if there are some ups-and-downs in 2024, it doesn't mean the Titans should immediately hit eject on the Will Levis experience. Remember, Levis is a player that's gone through a litany of play-callers dating back to his time in college. He deserves the chance to settle into a system and show what he can do. Giving up on Levis after the 2024 season wouldn't just be a disservice to him, it would be a disservice to the entire franchise.
