There isn't much that Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David hasn't seen before.  The thirteen-year NFL veteran has been one of the most productive yet underappreciated players in the league in the 21st century.  He's certainly put himself firmly in the conversation for enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame when he's done playing.

However, the veteran linebacker - who played his high school football at Miami Northwestern - hasn't seen quite everything yet as it turns out. David made a candid admission to the media on Wednesday following the Bucs' joint practice with the Miami Dolphins.

"I think we (the defense) was pretty good. A lot different looks for us today.  A lot of stuff that we haven't seen, shoot, since I've been playing football. I think all it did was get us better today. I think we did the same thing for them.  We got better.  They got better going against us. Overall, a productive day. A lot of good looks.  I'm looking forward to watching the film today, to learn some things to get different key reads to better my game. Overall, a pretty good day."

David wasn't the only starter on the Bucs' defense to notice the confusing nature of the looks that the Dolphins' offense provided.

"They've definitely got a lot of tricky things," said defensive lineman Calijah Kancey. "There's a lot of eye candy.  If your eyes are wandering, you can definitely lose focus on your keys really quick and get lost.  So, you're really got to dial in and know what they're actually trying to get to because they could be showing here, but actually want to go there.  It just comes down to reading your keys, but they've definitely got a lot of movements and tricky things to their game."

Mike McDaniel has certainly caused some confusion in his first two seasons, one that has seen the Dolphins' become one of the most prolific and explosive in the league.

That said, having the best wide receiver duo in the NFL and a quarterback who's tailor made to run the system helps, but there's little doubt that Mike McDaniel's Xs and Os have helped massively.  In the NFL, getting an extra step or two at the start of a play because a defense is trying to figure out what you're doing is invaluable.

Of course, now they're going to have to prove it under the bright lights during the regular season particularly against more physical teams who can slow down the running game and force teams to be more one dimensional.

However, the Bucs are one of those types of defenses.  And their elder statesman appeared to be pretty impressed with what he's seeing from their intrastate foe to the South.
