We are just a couple of days away from the final preseason game for the Cleveland Browns and the real thing is just about here.

A bit of concerning news came out on Wednesday involving Pro Bowl cornerback Denzel Ward . It has been known that Ward is in the confusion protocol and has been for over a week. Head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed that it is indeed another concussion for Ward.

Just because a player is in protocol, does not mean they for sure have a concussion. For Ward, this is his fifth known concussion in the NFL he has had at just 27 years old. When you factor in any previous blows to the head, the concern has to rise even more around the elite cornerback.

It does not take a doctor to know that five concussions is a lot for a lifetime, let alone just in just six years that he has played in the NFL. Cleveland has to be concerned with this and so does Ward. There has been proven data to show that blows to the head can affect a person much more later in life.

Ward has 15 interceptions in his career and is a three-time Pro Bowler. He has been a pretty consistent cornerback and the only thing that has slowed him down are concussions and soft tissue injuries. He is undoubtedly the top cornerback in a room that is loaded for the Browns.

The season has not started yet and Ward already registering a concussion is a worry since there are still 17 games and the playoffs to go. Ward has yet to play a full season and the lost games he has played in one season is 15 and that came in a Pro Bowl year in 2021.

Cleveland will have next week between the preseason and regular season, which will help out with time to heal from any injuries on the roster. The Browns will badly need Ward out there on Sept. 8, when the Dallas Cowboys and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb make a trip to town.

Ward’s health is the most important point in all of this and he needs to avoid concussions going forward because at some point hanging up the cleats will have to be on the table .
