The Los Angeles Chargers added plenty of depth and upside around their offense this offseason. After moving on from veteran wideouts Mike Williams and Keenan Allen, they've restocked their pass catcher room with a handful of targets. They also have the most talented offensive line they've had over the past handful of years.

The tight end position is one where they continue to look for more depth. Their latest move is a sign that they want to get younger at TE, too.

Chargers sign rookie tight end Isaac Rex

Rex is a native of California. He attended San Clemente High School before his college days at BYU. With the signing, Los Angeles waived defensive lineman Micheal Mason.

Over five seasons (2019-23) in Provo, Utah, Rex started 38-of- 52 career games, hauling in 112 passes for 1,385 yards (12.4 avg.) and 24 touchdowns. He tied for the most touchdown grabs in the nation in 2020, hauling in 12 scores for the Cougars that season.

Rex doesn't have blazing speed, even for his position. That being said, he has impressive hands and release off the line on the receiving side of his game. His blocking ability grew throughout his college career, too.

Rex helped his high school squad to a CIF state championship as a senior, too. He will wear number 46 for the Chargers. Don't be surprised to see him practice as both a tight end and fullback for LA.

The undrafted rookie tight end will compete for a roster spot as the end of the preseason looms. That's an uphill climb. If he can carve out a role, he will probably be a depth TE behind Will Dissly, Donald Parham Jr., and Hayden Hurst.
