The recruiting battle between the University of Oklahoma Sooners and the University of Texas Longhorns has been a longstanding and intense rivalry, reflecting not just on-field competition but also a fierce contest for top high school talent, particularly within Texas, which is a hotbed for football recruits.

Historically, Texas has often ranked higher in recruiting classes, but Oklahoma has managed to secure significant victories in recruiting battles that have been crucial for their on-field success. However, as of late, the Sooners have had some classes finish much better than the Longhorns. According to One3 , the Sooners have the 11th-ranked class in 2025, with the Longhorns having the 15th.

Under Brent Venables, the Sooners have done great recruiting, and getting players that fit a certain culture -- the Sooners' culture. Oklahoma is currently in a strong recruiting period, especially in June 2024, landing several high-profile recruits across various positions. This indicates a robust recruiting strategy under Brent Venables, aiming to bolster the team for SEC competition.

And, forget the fact that they are out-recruiting Texas, they are doing it with less NIL in a much smaller market, with less in-state talent around them. The Sooners are going into Texas, specifically Dallas, and are taking over.

They've already beaten the Longhorns since joining the SEC , and the two haven't even played each other yet.

For example, the commitment of five-star offensive tackle Michael Fasusi to Oklahoma over Texas and Texas A&M is all the proof you need. This decision was seen as a significant win for Oklahoma, highlighting their ability to pull top talent from Texas despite the Longhorns' efforts.

Fasusi's choice was influenced by Oklahoma's offensive line coach, perceived stability, and community at OU, showcasing Oklahoma's appeal beyond just football.

And, that's not the only example, either. Eight of their 23 commits are from the Texas pipeline, with half being four stars and half being three stars. Most of them, if not all of them, were recruited by Texas and maybe even offered. But, they liked what Oklahoma was doing more.

Oklahoma has been dominating Texas in the SEC, so far. Now, we will have to see what happens on October 12.
