With only four returning starters from Michigan's national championship team, the Wolverines have to rely on unproven talents to fill in the void left behind. This opportunity has opened up the door for plenty of the young talents on Michigan's roster to step up and earn playing time.

So far, it seems like many have done exactly that.

At his latest press conference , Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore highlighted two specific Wolverines, one offense, the other defense, who have risen to the occasion this offseason.

"At every position, you can go down the line, and we’ll talk about other positions. But another guy that just jumps out is a guy that has started games for us, Gio El-Hadi. I mean, he’s changed his body and I think being behind Keegan and Zinter the past couple years, he’s really done a really good job of learning. We always say watch, emulate, surpass, and that’s what he’s trying to do.

El-Hadi has played in the last three seasons for the Wolverines, even starting a couple of games in 2022, but he has seemingly locked down the right guard job for Michigan.

Moore also highlighted senior defensive lineman T.J. Guy.

"I think the guy that really has been where he was in the spring and taken the next step in fall camp is TJ Guy...you got Josaiah, you got Derrick, and you got him, and you got other guys that are chomping at the bit, but he’s really taking that step to be an elite player and be that guy"

T.J. Guy is someone Wolverines fans are more familiar with. The senior has seen action in each of the last three seasons, with two sacks to his name.

Guy is stuck behind two top-flight starters in Josaiah Stewart and Derrick Moore, but he seems like he is the firm EDGE3 and will hold a significant rotational role.

Sherrone Moore further elaborated on Guy, saying he "he’s changed his body" and has done a lot of great things. Moore indicated he didn't believe there would be much of a drop-off if Guy had to step in to replace one of Stewart/Moore, an encouraging sign for their pass rush room.
