Steelers HC Mike Tomlin has an odd reason for not naming a starting QB after preseason finale

The Pittsburgh Steelers fell to the Detroit Lions on Saturday afternoon, ending the preseason 0-3.

Luckily for them, the real games start in two weeks, when Pittsburgh travels south to take on the Atlanta Falcons.

So you would think, that now would be a time to answer the offseasons biggest question: Who will start at QB for Pittsburgh come Week 1?

Coach T said not so fast:

Tomlin To Name Starting QB Next Week

"We'll make a decision at the end of our work week," said HC Mike Tomlin when asked if he was ready to name a starting QB. "This upcoming week has three days of Steelers vs. Steelers work and why not do it then? It kind of minimizes the Steelers vs. Steelers work when we start making decisions prior to the completion of that. We've got ample time to prepare for Atlanta and make whatever decisions or announcements regarding the division of labor or pecking order and so forth, and so we'll do it at the end of the work week."

Credit to Coach Tomlin for keeping his cards close to his vest, but he, Russell Wilson, and everyone else on the planet that have consumed Steelers football over the course of training camp and the preseason know who will be the starter.

Pittsburgh will likely use this week as a final test run before getting some rest and tuning up for their first contest of the season. There is plenty of work to be done, as now Pittsburgh has to cut their roster from 90 to 53 men by Tuesday afternoon.

How it all shakes out will be telling for the projection of the team in 2024.
