Week 1 is here for college football fans and we’re just days away from the first jam-packed Saturday of the season.

Ohio State has high expectations in 2024 and they will have to give it their all to reach those expectations. With the offseason that the Buckeyes had and the recent trend of losing to Michigan, they may be as high as they’ve ever been.

On Saturday, former Alabama head coach Nick Saban said the quiet part out loud when it comes to what could derail the season for the Buckeyes.

"I do agree that Ohio State has a really good roster, and I think Ryan Day probably likes his roster," Saban said on College GameDay Saturday."I think the key that they will drill is how Will Howard is gonna play at quarterback for them and can they manage the expectations? The worst thing for a team is to have these kinds of expectations and this kind of anxiety on your players that they've gotta go accomplish something, rather than compete and go out there and play."

Sometimes pressure can take a toll on players, at the end of the day we have to remember these are young adults and some of them are on the biggest stage they will ever be, simply put. Ohio State is going to play their two toughest games on the road and that is against Oregon and Penn State. Getting Michigan at home is a plus for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State went out this offseason and was very active in the transfer portal. Bringing in safety Caleb Downs, running back Quinshon Judkins, and quarterback Will Howard were the biggest gets for Ohio State.

Taking it game by game will be the motto for Day and the Buckeyes undoubtedly. It is going to be the longest college football season we have ever watched with the extended College Football Playoff format, so depth is going to be tested more than we have ever seen. It could be a situation where guys are playing that you never would have thought would be in the end.

Blocking out the pressure is tough to do and it is easier said than done. Ohio State knows the stakes are very high for them in 2024 and they can’t give into that pressure, or they may pay the price.
