Notre Dame football offensive depth chart highlights wide receiver depth, uncertainty up front

Notre Dame released their depth chart for their matchup against Texas A&M on Saturday. On offense, there weren't a ton of surprises from what we have heard recently. Still, there were a couple cool notes to mention.

Here is the two-deep for that matchup. It’s going to be interesting to watch how legitimate it is when Saturday night finally gets here.

Quarterback

1. Riley Leonard
2. Steve Angeli

There is no surprise here, which is both good and bad. Leonard was always the starter, and he should have been. When healthy, he is one of the best dual threat signal callers in all of college football. Most Notre Dame fans should be very excited for what the former Duke signal caller can accomplish.

Angeli being the main backup isn’t a shock. Whether you agree with it or not, the Irish staff is high on the junior signal caller. That comfort has won the main backup spot over both Kenny Minchey and CJ Carr, for now.

Running back

1. Jeremiyah Love or Jadarian Price
2. Aneyas Williams

This is another situation that isn’t overly surprising, for the most part. Love and Price are going to be the main ball carriers. I wouldn’t read too much into the “or” listing. I would be surprised if Love wasn’t the main volume better, although Price will also get plenty of touches.

Williams ascending to the third running back was really interesting to see. If he was able to beat out fellow freshman Kedren Young and Devyn Ford. Notre Dame coaches have been very complimentary of Williams and his attention to detail as a blocker. He could be a pass game weapon.

Wide receiver

X - Beau Collins or Jayden Thomas

Z - Jordan Faison or Kris Mitchell

Slot - Jaden Greathouse or Jayden Harrison

The Irish staff has said that six wide receivers are going to play, and we saw that with this posting. After originally thinking Faison could end up in the slot, he is indeed playing outside at the Z. There’s no major takeaway here. It includes all the players we were expecting, just in slightly different spots.

Tight end

1. Mitchell Evans
2. Cooper Flanagan or Eli Raridon

As mentioned, all three tight ends are going to play. Evans is the leader if healthy, with Flanagan and Raridon also providing the depth. That gives you a combination of a proven commodity in Evans, dynamic athleticism with Raridon, and a huge body and blocker and Flanagan. This could be one of the best tight end units in all of college football.

Offensive line

LT - Anthonie Knapp

LT - Tosh Baker

LG - Sam Pendleton

LG - Rocco Spindler

C - Ashton Craig

C - Pat Coogan

RG - Billy Schrauth

RG - Sullivan Absher

RT - Aamil Wagner

RT - Guerby Lambert

The rumors were true. Both Knapp and Pendleton have won starting jobs. The former was expected, and honestly, it brings a lot of upside to the table. Pendleton was a little less expected initially, but he has beaten out a slew of veterans. With this move, you are heading into Kyle Field with six career starts among the offensive line starters.

There is, however, a lot more to exciting about from center over to right tackle. The trio of Craig, Schrauth, and Wagner is especially talented. Even without experience, the upside is immense.
