The Clemson Tigers and Georgia Bulldogs face off in what should be the premier matchup of Week 1 College Football action on Saturday. And in standard fashion, it seems Kirby Smart will not be releasing a depth chart ahead of the college football season once again. However, Dabo Swinney and Clemson went off script from their usual preseason and pregame routine when it came to releasing a depth chart this week.

Clemson quite frequently releases a depth chart ahead of games and heading into the season, but this time Dabo Swinney decided to keep things close to the vest. Clemson released their "game notes" for their bout with Georgia on Saturday, but they read only this:

"Clemson's initial depth chart for the 2024 season will be available at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on game day."

And then for the Georgia section--since Kirby Smart of course won't be releasing a full depth chart either--read:

"Please see Georgia's game notes for details and insight on team personnel."

Obviously the release of those "game notes" was simply a gesture made in good fun with some basic strategy in mind, holding any and every detail back from the Georgia Bulldogs ahead of this Saturday.

Neither team has much incentive to share any information considering this one game will likely end up setting the tone, expectations, and perhaps even the ultimate ceiling on the season for both teams. However, based on what we know of both rosters it's not likely going to do Clemson any good hiding who their starters and rotational contributors might be.

Currently most betting markets have Georgia favored by 13.5 points with an implied win probability around 85% for the Bulldogs. Why is that?

Clemson is fresh off their worst record (9-4) since the 2010 season when Dabo Swinney was still in just his second full year as the Tigers' head coach. Meanwhile Georgia is coming off their third consecutive undefeated regular season. Clemson's quarterback Cade Klubnik ranked 93rd in yards per attempt last season. Carson Beck has the second highest odds to win the Heisman Trophy. Georgia brings back an elite defense and offensive line group. Clemson is replacing multiple offensive line starters and two of the three returning surrendered around 50 combined pressures last season.

Both teams aren't revealing anything heading into this important Week 1 matchup, but unless something pretty bizarre happens it's not likely going to matter. The Georgia Bulldogs should take control of the game early and never let go.
