Minnesota Vikings should sign former first-round pick as Kwesi Adofo-Mensah's next reclamation project

Cutdown day has passed and the Minnesota Vikings have their final 53-man rosters ready to go. Over 1,000 players have been waived, released or traded ahead of final cuts and a lot of those players will end up on the practice squad.

When you look at who was cut, there are a lot of different players on the list. A lot of whom you will know from college football in 2023 with others being well known from years past. There is a reason all of these players are getting cut but sometimes you can find a diamond in the rough for a multitude of reasons.

This year, there is one player the Vikings should make an effort to bring in because the upside is there.

CB Caleb Farley is a Kwesi Adofo-Mensah reclamation project

I wrote about Farley on Sunday being a player the Vikings should target

Everyone has one player that they refuse to give up on. Farley is one of those for me. Coming out of the NFL Draft in 2021, I had Farley as my top cornerback. His combination of size and athleticism was incredibly enticing coming out of Virginia Tech. After the Tennessee Titans selected Farley one pick before the Vikings selected left tackle Christian Darrisaw, things have not gone well.

Farley dealt with injuries as a Hokie in college and those have followed him to the National Football League. Farley has only played in 12 games with the Titans and has fallen out of favor, especially with the front office and coaching staff having changed since he was selected. If the athleticism is still there, Farley could be a fun reclamation project that has some real upside.

With his release official, it would be a good idea to kick the tires on a player as talented as Farley is. The question remains why Farley was waived despite the talent. In what I wrote above, it’s all about the injuries.

He suffered a back injury at Virginia Tech that has hindered him throughout his career. Farley also suffered a torn ACL which hampered him. It’s just been an unfortunate career loaded with injuries.

The intrigue comes from the predraft process. He was viewed by many as the top cornerback and if you believe his issues are about staying healthy, if you can get him there, maybe he can be a contributor this year or next year. Is he worth claiming on waivers with his contract being guaranteed for 2024? That is where the hesitation lies.

The Vikings have a good medical staff and if they say okay, the Vikings should make the move.
