Former LSU national championship winning wide receiver released from his NFL team ahead of 2024 season

Believe it or not it's already been about five years since the LSU Tigers went on their incredible 2019 National Championship run. Since then, many stars from that special team have gone on to have phenomenal careers in the NFL. Joe Burrow at quarterback for the Bengals. Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson dominating at wide receiver. Several defensive stars have performed well too.

Unfortunately not every player from that team has found success at the next level. And one of the best players from that storied roster was sadly just released from the team that drafted him today as the NFL roster cut deadline took place on Tuesday. According to multiple sources former LSU wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. was reported to be released by the Carolina Panthers and he will likely be looking for a fresh start elsewhere.

Terrace Marshall Jr. posted back to back seasons with 10+ receiving touchdowns in 2019 and 2020 for the LSU Tigers despite battling through injuries in both seasons. He went on to be selected by the Carolina Panthers in the 2nd round of the 2021 NFL Draft and was expected by many to find instant success in a wide receiver room that wasn't exactly crowded at the time.

Marshall ended up playing over 1,400 snaps throughout his first three seasons for the Carolina Panthers, but never logged over 500 receiving yards or 50 targets in a single season. The Panthers have struggled immensely as a franchise winning just 14 total games over the last three years. As the team looks to continue their rebuild, leadership mercifully decided to set Terrace Marshall Jr. free from their mess of a franchise in hopes that he could find better opportunities elsewhere.

Marshall Jr. shouldn't have to wait long to find a new home. Hopefully for his sake it's with a better team than the Carolina Panthers. If he is given another decent shot at NFL starting snaps he'll likely continue LSU's storied legacy of sending star wide receivers on to success in the pros.
