Every season we see players that were not drafted make NFL 53-man rosters and that is the case for one player on the Cleveland Browns.

The Browns have kept undrafted rookie guard Javion Cohen on the initial 53-man roster . Cohen did enough through OTAs and training camp to earn his spot with the club.

Cohen was a player that very well could have been drafted, in fact many folks around draft circles believed he would. The Athletic’s Dane Brugler had a fifth to sixth-round grade on Cohen out of Miami and had this to say about him:

“Overall, Cohen is a physical, square-cut blocker who can lock up targets when he stays centered, but he has trouble combating quick defenders on his edges. He projects as a backup with potential to be more.” - Dane Brugler, The Athletic

Cohen was a pretty good athlete coming out of college and started 25 games at Alabama before transferring to Miami for his senior season and starting 12 games there. Cohen did not allow his first sack until his senior season, which was quite impressive.

Cohen is joined by third-round pick Zak Zinter as the two rookie offensive linemen that the Browns have on the initial 53-man roster. With Michael Dunn currently on the Non-Football Injury List, the Browns have only Zinter and Cohen as backup guards currently on the roster. Center Nick Harris has had experience in the past playing some guard but is much better suited at center.

While it is only the initial roster and things could change, Cohen making the Browns roster is a good story as an undrafted free agent. He is the only player that made the Browns from the undrafted rookie class they signed back in April.
