Raiders need to immediately target recently cut player on the waiver wire as a backup plan for 24' and 25'

Roster cuts are over, for now, and the Las Vegas Raiders' initial 53-man roster is set, also for now. On that roster, the Raiders are carrying just two quarterbacks and seven linebackers. I can tell you the linebackers will be changing, and maybe even the quarterback position if they get a guy they really like.

Look, we all know the Raiders have a quarterback issue. You know the saying, if you have a quarterback battle going on, you have no quarterback. And in the Raiders case, they don't have one for the future, certainly. The fan base has wanted them to draft one, and they have missed out on doing so two years in a row now.

So, why not go get a guy who is still very, very young and has a ton of potential? Sure, you can trade for Zach Wilson, who has been very good for the Denver Broncos in the preseason, or you could hit the waiver wire and go after Desmond Ridder, who was just released by the Cardinals. Ridder was a third-round pick by the Atlanta Falcons and is looking to pick up where he left off in college.

In the NFL, Ridder's journey has been a mix of promise and challenges. Initially, he served as a backup, but his opportunity came when he was named the starting quarterback for the Falcons midway through the 2022 season. His debut was modest, but it was his 2023 season that offered a clearer picture of his capabilities.

Over 15 games, Ridder threw for 2,836 yards with 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, showcasing a balanced but somewhat inconsistent performance. His ability to avoid interceptions early in his career was highlighted, but as the season progressed, his turnover numbers, including fumbles, became a point of concern.

Ridder's style of play includes mobility, which was evident in his rushing stats, accumulating 193 yards on 53 attempts with five touchdowns in 2023. However, his efficiency in the red zone and decision-making under pressure were areas that drew mixed reviews.

Despite these criticisms, Ridder led the Falcons to several comebacks, indicating a resilience and clutch performance capability. His season ended with him being benched, signaling the Falcons' potential shift towards seeking a new franchise quarterback, which led to his move to the Arizona Cardinals.

Ridder could be a guy still for all we know -- why not get him in waivers? If the Raiders don't, someone will.
