A five star running back in the 2026 recruiting class has officially narrowed his search down to five potential schools this week. Savion Hiter, an elite playmaking running back from Woodberry Forest, VA has been widely considered the number one overall running back in the nation for more than a year now and should be a lock to finish near the top of recruiting boards in 2026.

As of this week Hiter announced that as his junior season kicks off his top five schools are the Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions, and the Tennessee Volunteers. Some believe that his home state school Virginia might technically be in it as well, but given the state of their program it seems unlikely.

So where will this talented future star end up going to school? And what makes him so special?

    Savion Hiter, Elite Running Back

As a true freshman Savion Hiter starred for Louisa County High School before inevitably transferring to play for Woodberry Forest as a sophomore where he impressed even more. As soon as the major recruiting services put together their first rankings boards for 2026 Hiter was near the top of every single one. Now Hiter has reportedly added about 20 pounds of muscle and should be about 6'0", 200 pounds or more this fall as his junior season begins.

Hiter is fresh off a season where he tallied nearly 1300 total yards from scrimmage and a pair of kick return touchdowns as well. His verified track speed, improved strength, and contact balance should help him put up an even more productive season this fall as he further solidifies his elite five star status.

    Which School will land Hiter?

Early on in Savion Hiter's recruiting journey it seemed that his home state school of Virginia might actually score an elite talent after he logged a few unofficial visits with them early on. However, after the big schools showed up with offers across the board (now up to 25+ FBS offers) Hiter's attention shifted quickly.

Both Ohio State and Penn State managed to gain some momentum in the spring of 2023 when he was still coming off his impressive freshman year. However, after incredible seasons for both Georgia and Michigan both of those schools began to gain more traction logging multiple visits with him since March.

The wildcard program that has been coming on strongest lately seems to be the Tennessee Volunteers though. They're much closer to his home county than both Georgia and Michigan. Hiter has gone out of his way to say he's looking to get another unofficial visit with the Vols this fall . And while it's true, the other big four schools have solid track records of sending running backs to the pros, the Vols just did it with Jaylen Wright too.

All five teams are among the top favorites to make the very first 12-Team College Football Playoff this season. It's hard to tell which way he's leaning just yet as positive comments continue to be reported from every single team's camp. Ohio State, Penn State, Georgia, and Michigan all have heavy "proof of concept" for running back development, but the Vols have a strong QB succession plan in place with Nico Iamaleava and George MacIntyre. Plus the veer and shoot scheme in Knoxville creates a ton of wide open lanes for Hiter to sprint through if he chooses Tennessee.
