It didn't take long for the new regime for the Carolina Panthers to move on from a second-round pick.

On the NFL's roster cutdown day, a moment before the regular season when teams get their rosters down to 53 men, one of the Panthers' roster casualties was receiver Terrace Marshall Jr.

Carolina also announced on Tuesday that second-round running back Jonathon Brooks, who tore his ACL late last season at Texas, will start the season on the team's non-football injury list.

Marshall was a second-round pick in 2021 out of LSU. He was an attractive talent, boasting playmaking instincts that couldn't materialize while he was in Charlotte.

Marshall leaves Carolina with 64 catches for 767 yards and one touchdown logged over three seasons.

Those numbers pale in comparison to how good Marshall was while in college . At LSU, he logged 1,594 yards and 23 touchdowns over two and a half seasons.

What also factored in the Marshall being cut was the lack of a trade partner. Joseph Person, for The Athletic, reported that Dan Morgan tried unsuccessfully to "trade Marshall, who had a good performance during the New York Jets' joint practice and scored a touchdown in the final preseason game at Buffalo."

Instead, the Panthers opted to say goodbye to a talented second-round pick to find greener pastures.

Other notable players waived in the Panthers' journey to 53 : DT Ulumoo Ale, G Jack Anderson, LB Aaron Beasley, CB Dicaprio Bootle, G Mason Brooks, S Alex Cook, OT Jeremiah Crawford, CB Willie Drew, OLB Kenny Dyson, TE Feleipe Franks, OT Ricky Lee, WR Terrace Marshall Jr., OLB Derrick McLendon, CB Quandre Mosely, DT Walter Palmore, WR Sam Pinckney, QB Jack Plummer, RB Jaden Shirden, DT TJ Smith, WR Mike Strachan, OLB Luiji Vilain, CB Chris Wilcox, LB Chandler Wooten.

Released (vested veterans): G Ike Boettger, RB Mike Boone, S Rudy Ford, TE Jacob Hollister, TE Jesper Horsted, TE Jordan Matthews.
