With the 2024 college football season officially underway, as well as the NFL season right around the corner, the Good, Bettor, Bets podcast relaunched in hopes of making everyone out there more educated bettors. In the first episode, the duo of Ryan Roberts and betting expert Mike Donzuso dove into the college football top 25 matchups, and laid some intriguing week one bets.

Here are the games that were broken down, which were the three biggest games of the weekend of action. These breakdowns included picking against the lines, potential bets to consider, and ones to avoid. It promises to be an interesting slate of games this weekend.

All of the odds are the latest from BetMGM . Make sure to do your digging on the rest of the market before placing a bet.

    (14) Clemson at (1) Georgia (-13.5) - O/U 49.5 - money line: CLEM +450

For a top 25 matchup, that is a massive line. The major suggestion would be to not touch it on either side, although leaning Georgia to cover seems like the smarter play. After falling short in the SEC Championship last season, and subsequently not earning a spot in the playoff, there’s a thought that this Bulldog team could come out angry this season. The -13.5 would be the smartest play if you did choose to wager, with the money line and over-under not being overly appealing.

    (7) Notre Dame at (20) Texas A&M (-3) - O/U 46.5 - money line: ND +125

Both Roberts and Donzuso like Notre Dame +3, but more on that later. That line has been moving more toward Texas A&M this offseason, and really seemed to move even quicker once the injury to Notre Dame starting left tackle Charles Jagusah occurred early in fall camp. The oddsmakers clearly think this is going to be a lower scoring game, and it certainly feels that was. With the Irish offense potentially taking a nice step under offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock, as well as Conner Weigman being fully healthy, picking the over might be an interesting play.

    (23) USC at (13) LSU (-4) - O/U 63.5 - money line: USC +155

This game feels like an odd one on paper. Clearly people believe this is going to be a high scoring affair (more on that later) but both sides are turning over very important parts of their roster. Both LSU and USC will have new full time starting quarterbacks with Garrett Nussmeier and Miller Moss respectively. Funny enough, we got a deeper look at both last season with notable ball game performances. We also have two new defensive coordinators on both sides, wanting to improve on that side of the football. Despite LSU being at home, the duo likes the Trojans getting points.

    Bets of the week

Here are some bets that the crew likes. They both involve the games previously broken down.

Mikes pick: (7) Notre Dame at (20) Texas A&M - Notre Dame (+3)

Donzuso likes Notre Dame to cover the three points. Some factors include a first game under Mike Elko, more sustainability on the Irish side, and the tandem of Coach Denbrock and quarterback Riley Leonard.

    Ryan’s pick: (23) USC at (13) LSU (-4) - under 63.5

This might be a surprise to some. Both offenses, on paper, should be very good. That line, however, seems a tough high. Both offenses are breaking in new quarterbacks who are less talented than their predecessors, and each defense should be slightly better than last season. Feels like an under play.
