The time has come. The 53-man roster for the Pittsburgh Steelers is set, or at least in its initial capacity.

And with the waiver wire window now behind us, the time to add another WR, much less a difference maker is dwindling and fast.

But the truth is, the concern that is rising around the Steelers and their WR room is an overreaction. Here's why:

Is it time to panic in Pittsburgh?

The Steelers currently boast five WRs on their active roster. We await the practice squad, a potential trade, and or free agent signing, but for now, here is how the Steelers WR corps looks ahead of Week 1:

    • George Pickens
    • Van Jefferson
    • Calvin Austin III
    • Roman Wilson
    • Scotty Miller

Of those five, rookie Roman Wilson has his Week 1 status up in the air, though he has been spotted working at practice this week and still has around 10 days as of publish time to get ready.

But even then, now you're asking a rookie third-rounder to be an impact player in his literal NFL debut, seeing as Wilson missed all of the preseason with his ankle injury.

So yes, I see why some may be panicking.

But here's the thing, if you're panicking now, it's probably too late, yet a little too early. Let me explain.

This group has been in Pittsburgh all spring. Sure there have been rumors and talk and hearsay about adding free agents, or trading for a proven asset, of which the latter may still materialize , but nothing has changed among the current grouping.

But here's why the panic that consumes the fanbase is an overreaction, or at least for now.

    Trade deadline.

The Steelers have until Nov. 5th to add another option on the perimeter via trade. And I know that's half the season, but if Pittsburgh can't handle the first half of their schedule without a second WR, it won't matter who they add as they face a daunting second half of the season.

At that point, panic can set in. If Pittsburgh gets to November and nothing has come to fruition in terms of Brandon Aiyuk, Davantae Adams, or whomever else is rumored to be on the trade block at that point, then cause for concern will be warranted.
