The Las Vegas Raiders have had quite a few regimes over the years, and all of the previous ones have seemed to make at least one mistake when it comes to drafting. Now, obviously, the Jon Gruden era was likely the worst in terms of drafting, but the Josh McDaniels era, as small as it was, wasn't great either.

On Tuesday, the Raiders, and the rest of the NFL, cut their rosters down from 90 players to 53 , cutting 37 players or more. The Raiders had some difficult decisions to make, but it's interesting that they put defensive tackle Byron Young on the initial 53-man roster. Young, a Josh McDaniels pick, has not been good, and struggled in the run game during the preseason, despite getting a sack.

Selected by the Las Vegas Raiders in the third round (70th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft, Young was seen as a prospect with significant potential due to his physical attributes and performance at Alabama. However, his rookie season was somewhat underwhelming in terms of stats, with only four tackles in six games played, indicating limited playing time or impact in his first year.

However, he has already been replaced. The thought is, that the Raiders placed him on the initial 53-man roster so they can allow him to seek a better situation for himself, and if not, he can just come back to the Raiders on the practice squad.

On Wednesday, the Raiders released Young and replaced him with Jonah Laulu, a former Oklahoma Sooners defensive tackle . The Raiders also claimed Thomas Harper off waivers, a safety from Notre Dame.

Young just hasn't shown enough improvement over the last few years.
