The dust has settled for the time being and the Cleveland Browns have their initial 53-man roster . Some more changes are coming, but for the moment the Browns are more than a full day in with their first set of 53 players.

Cleveland has much of their practice squad filled ahead of Week 1 and you can check that out here . The Browns still have obvious moves to make and a few observations stand out.

Two healthy running backs for the moment

Cleveland will be without Nick Chubb for the first four weeks at least and as it currently stands Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong Jr. are the only running backs on the roster. With just two healthy running backs, the Browns are surely going to make a running back move before their first game against the Dallas Cowboys.

The sensible move is that Cleveland will bring back running back D’Onta Foreman, who they parted ways with during cutdowns. It very well could be a case where the Browns plan to bring the veteran back and are just doing some roster maneuvering. I think of Foreman as a better Kareem Hunt at this point and the Browns need a player like him to start the season.

Two tight ends on the 53-man roster

Another position that the Browns are short-handed at is tight end. David Njoku is the star of the room and Jordan Akins is going to back him up. Initially, Cleveland had fullback/tight end Giovanni Ricci in house but an injury ended his time with Cleveland and they moved on.

Cleveland could mostly operate with just these two but they’ll need a third right end in mind and they could already have that guy. Former San Francisco 49er Cameron Latu was signed to the practice squad and maybe a player that Cleveland elevates when they want to go heavier.

    Four initial quarterbacks

The first thing that pops off the most I have saved for last. Keeping for quarterbacks very well could be why we only see two running backs on the 53 right now. It is not hard to see that the Browns are trying to capitalize on trading a reserve quarterback just like they did last season with Joshua Dobbs.

Tyler Huntley is the most likely to be traded and the fourth quarterback on the depth chart. The veteran dual-threat could fetch a late-round pick for the Browns, or could eventually be released. It would be a real surprise if the Browns entered Week 1 with four quarterbacks. I’d be shocked.
