Brad Holmes says young player was on the verge of taking a starting spot before injury, could point to a reunion some day

One of the biggest themes of the offseason for the Detroit Lions was that they had a receiver problem. That problem has been theoretically solved at this point, but it sounds like it could have been solved a bit earlier.

Lions GM Brad Holmes met with the media bright and early Thursday morning and said that a second year player was right on the cusp of taking that WR3 role and then he got hurt.

"I think the unfortunate part happened was right when Antoine Green's injury came, I felt that's right when he started showing the growth, and that he was about to really kind of take the lead, unfortunately, that happened."

Sounds like Antoine Green was on his way to being the Lions WR3 and then he suffered a really bad injury. The Lions waived him with an injury settlement. At the time Dan Campbell said the team really didn't want to do it.

“We certainly had a number of doctors look at his scans and we felt like this was the best thing on our end, for him, and we needed to do this,” Campbell said. “So that’s where it’s at. We didn’t want to do this. We love the kid, he’s grinding, he’s working, but that’s a tough injury, it is.”

At this point Green has reverted back to the Lions injury reserve after clearing waivers and that's where things are at right now.

A reunion or a comeback is not something to rule out. The Lions are sort of known for giving more chances to injured players than teams usually would. Emmanuel Moseley is a great example of that.

If Green is able to get back to 100% percent, maybe the Lions will look to try again with him. It's a shame that he had this chance ripped away from him by an injury though.
