Eagles must capitalize on another NFL’s team mistake after final roster cuts

The Cleveland Browns are releasing former Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler Huntley , NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on Thursday morning.

"Cleveland really likes Huntley, but had to make a tough decision with all the quarterbacks on their roster," Schultz wrote on X/Twitter.

Letting Huntley go is certainly a mistake that could come back to haunt the Browns down the road later this season. However, it's good news for other teams across the league looking to add a quality backup.

The Philadelphia Eagles are not necessarily a team that needs another quarterback at the moment, but they should take advantage of it while they can.

Huntley, who was competing for the third-string roster spot this offseason, appeared in all three preseason games for the Browns. He completed 37 of 51 passes for 322 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. He rushed for another 46 yards, averaging 5.8 yards per carry.

That's a better outing than Eagles' Kenny Pickett's subpar preseason performance where he completed 31 of 44 pass attempts for 214 yards and one touchdown.

Pickett held onto the ball way too long and was hesitant to throw any deep balls. Even Eagles' third-string quarterback Tanner McKee looked more stable under center.

Before joining the Browns, Huntley served as a reliable backup for Lamar Jackson for four seasons, completing 221 passes for 1,957 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He earned a Pro Bowl nod as an injury replacement for Bills quarterback Josh Allen following his four starts during the 2022 season.

If the Eagles are serious about this NFL season then they will want to reconsider their quarterback room and replace Pickett with better arm talent with someone like Huntley.
