Minnesota Vikings make surprising move at quarterback

The Minnesota Vikings had just set their 53-man roster and practice squads going into Thursday but they couldn't resist making another move. According to multiple reports, the Vikings signed quarterback Brett Rypien and waived quarterback Jaren Hall.

This move came out of nowhere for the Vikings, especially since Hall was really good in the final two preseason games. The fifth-round pick out of BYU thrived when given the opportunity in the preseason and also looked good in his first start against the Atlanta Falcons before suffering a concussion.

Where this decision gets complicated is his second start, which was an abject disaster on all fronts against the Green Bay Packers. The loss wasn't all on him but his play did factor in huge.

Rypien has a multitude of experience in the National Football League. The former Boise State quarterback has played in 10 games with four starts and spent time with both the Denver Broncos where he crossed paths with Vikings offensive line coach Chris Kuper and the Los Angeles Rams which gives him experience in this offense. Having another quarterback with starting experience is a benefit for the Vikings.

Watch for the Vikings to try and sneak Hall onto the practice squad.
