Former promising Buffalo Bills draft pick gets a second chance at a new position with the Las Vegas Raiders

When the Buffalo Bills made their roster cuts to get down to the 53-man roster limit, one wide receiver that the organization had a lot of hope for wound up on the wrong side of the cut down list – Justin Shorter.

Just a year ago, the Bills invested a fifth round pick on Shorter, hoping that he would develop into a piece of the puzzle for what the team was looking to do offensively. Unfortunately for the big-bodied wide receiver out of Florida, he was unable to make his mark, and the team went in other directions with their roster construction heading into a new season.

For Shorter, his tenure in the NFL isn't done yet. After clearing waivers, it was announced that the Las Vegas Raiders, who could absolutely use youth and upside, had signed Shorter to their practice squad. It will be an opportunity for a fresh start on a team that has plenty of questions on their depth chart, and will give him the opportunity to continue to develop.

Notably, the Raiders listed Shorter as a tight end when they announced signing him. Apparently, the big-body target is giving a new position a try.

Shorter spent his rookie season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. Looking to make a mark going into his second season, Shorter needed to have an impressive preseason in order to get one of the depth receiver position on the depth chart.

At the end of the day, the Bills ended up keeping only five receivers on their active roster, with a pair of veterans in Mack Hollins and Marquez Valdes-Scantling getting getting the last two spots.

The Bills currently have three wide receivers on their practice squad – K.J. Hamler , Tyrell Shavers , and recently-signed Jalen Virgil .
