The Tennessee Vols' 2024 season finally gets underway on Saturday at 12:45 pm ET when the Chattanooga Mocs invade Neyland Stadium.

The Nico Iamaleava era begins in earnest, as the talented quarterback begins the season as the unquestioned starter after a promising performance in his first career start in Tennessee's 35-0 win over Iowa in the Citrus Bowl.

Tennessee is 38-2-2 all-time against Chattanooga, with one more win (45-0 in 2019) that was vacated due to NCAA sanctions. Tennessee has won 10 straight dating back to 1959.

Tennessee obviously doesn't have much to prove here, aside from showing it's talented enough for its starters to get in a half of work, perhaps into the third quarter, and get out healthy.  Which is something that NC State - Tennessee's next opponent - wasn't able to do well in a 38-21 win over Western Carolina that was close until the game's final minutes.

The Vols should use this as a chance to get Nico some work in a game environment and allow him and his wide receivers to get in sync.  It should also be a chance for a number of players on both sides of the ball to get some work and give a glimpse at to how good the Vols' depth could be this year - at least as much as can be told in what should be a one-sided matchup.

    Tennessee’s 2024 schedule:

    • Aug. 31 – Chattanooga
    • Sept. 7 – NC State (Charlotte)
