Well played, Pride of the Southland marching band.  Well played.

The Tennessee Vols' band gave the biggest of nods to Tony Vitello and the national champion Tennessee Vols baseball team as part of the halftime show during the Vols' 69-3 season-opening win over the Chattanooga Mocs.

The band shifted into different formations representing a couple of recognizable symbols of key parts of the team's championship run, namely Tony Vitello and Kirby Connell's unmistakable signature mustache.

The celebration of the Vols' first-ever national championship is in line with the collegiality between and overall success of Tennessee's athletic programs across the board.  That's been evident with the way the coaches have openly supported each other's programs.

Tony V has been courtside at Tennessee's basketball games and on the field for football games.  Of course, who can forget Rick Barnes, Josh Heupel, Danny White, and Peyton Manning all together in a box celebrating as Vitello and the Vols slammed the door shut on the Aggies in Game 3 of the College World Series championship series.

It's a great time to be a fan of Tennessee athletics, in pretty much every sport.  And it's nice to see the university continuing to embrace that mindset with everything it does.
