Seahawks make intriguing move in their quarterback room days ahead of the regular season opener

The Seattle Seahawks have found a third option at the quarterback position.

Seattle signed quarterback Jaren Hall to its practice squad on Monday, six days out from their regular-season opener against the Denver Broncos.

Hall entered the league as a fifth-round pick of the Minnesota Vikings in last year's draft.

He played in three games as a rookie, with his sole start against the Atlanta Falcons ended early by a concussion.

The former BYU quarterback had a strong finish to the preseason but did not make the 53-man roster , giving the Seahawks the opportunity to scoop him up.

And A to Z Sports' Vikings writer Tyler Forness views Hall signing with the Seahawks' practice squad as a potentially astute move by Seattle.

    Said Forness:

"Hall is an older second year player, as he served a two-year Mormon mission out of high school. What he brings to the Seahawks is a level of savvy and intelligence with average arm talent and the ability to extend plays. At BYU, he played in an offense very similar to the one that Kevin O'Connell runs in Minnesota and he showed some real proficiency in running it. It was a surprise that the Vikings let him go, but they wanted more starting experience after they had to play four quarterbacks a season ago."

The 26-year-old will now need to adapt to a new offense run by Seattle's coordinator Ryan Grubb , who comes into the NFL after a hugely successful spell running the offense at the University of Washington.

His proficiency in running O'Connell's system leaves room for optimism that he can quickly adjust to Grubb's scheme.

The Seahawks are committed to Geno Smith as the starting quarterback this year with Sam Howell set to serve as his backup.

However, the Seahawks can easily get out of Smith's contract next offseason. If Hall impresses the Seattle coaching staff during his time on the practice squad, he could well have a long-term future in the Seahawks' quarterback room.
