The Pittsburgh Steelers and more specifically, GM Omar Khan swung and missed when it came to Brandon Aiyuk.

It's no secret that the WR corps lacks premier or proven talent behind George Pickens, even with rookie Roman Wilson on pace to make his debut .

There was a time this offseason when Coach Tomlin challenged the group of pass catchers, who have since responded in an appropriate manner:

Coach Tomlin Appluads the WR Corps

"I'm comfortable with the performance of these guys," said Coach Tomlin when asked about the WR room on Tuesday. "Had some questions, even dating back to the spring, and to be quite honest with you, I probably went into the receiver room about a couple weeks into camp and told them that. I just believe in being really transparent. But the consistency in which those guys performed in Latrobe and through team development has made me more comfortable. And specifically I'm talking about Scotty Miller and Van Jefferson. Man, I just can't say enough about the consistency in which they performed, their floor, if you will. They behave like veteran NFL players and that's provided some comfort in the midst of the transition that comes with dealing with new people and getting acclimated in that way."

One reason why Coach Tomlin is fawned over in the media is his candid nature. Unafraid to say what he means and mean what he says, sharing that he challenged the group in the first place is surprising, even for him.

And look, as much as I believe or want to believe Coach Tomlin, we know Coach Speak is very real. I mean what can he say? "My WR room has yet to live up to expectations so we will prepare accordingly."

The truth is, no one knows how the group will look until the ball is kicked off on Sunday. Some are pessimistic, and some are optimistic given the scheme, but we'll have the data that matters in a few days.
