Sherrone Moore is navigating through his inaugural season as the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines, and surprisingly, he's doing so without an official contract in place. What's Moore's contract and his salary in 2024?  We dive into the details below.

Michigan's Athletic Director, Warde Manuel, acknowledged on Thursday that the university is still in negotiations to finalize a contract with Moore. Notably, a number of his assistant coaches are also operating without contracts.

Manuel said on the Conqu'ring Heroes Podcast , "These things take time, the contracts. I mean they don't just happen overnight and the things that have popped up, but they're being worked on."

What is Sherrone Moore's Contract and Salary?

Moore initially stepped into the head coach role on January 26, taking over from his previous position as offensive coordinator. He succeeded Jim Harbaugh, who departed for an NFL coaching position with the Los Angeles Chargers.

This switch happened eight months ago, and at the time, the deal was publicized as a five-year agreement worth $27.5 million. Given the public disclosure of the financial terms, the delay in formalizing the contract raises questions.

The backdrop of this contractual delay involves the university's ongoing efforts to address the repercussions of the NCAA's probe into rules violations related to sign-stealing by Connor Stalions and recruitment infractions that occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The NCAA has implicated Moore in these violations, notably for erasing 52 text messages exchanged with Stalions in October 2023.

These violations might influence the terms of Moore's eventual contract, especially regarding its financial aspects. However, if Michigan is committed to a stance that absolves its football program of wrongdoing, the prolonged delay in cementing Moore's contract appears to be a misstep.

Despite these issues, Manuel has stated that a resolution on Moore's contract is expected imminently.

    Sherrone Moore's Coaching Career

Moore's football coaching career is marked by rapid ascension and impactful contributions to collegiate football. Born on June 30, 1984, Moore transitioned from a promising playing career to a coaching role with notable efficiency.

Moore began coaching in 2012, starting as a graduate assistant at the University of Michigan under then-head coach Brady Hoke. His work ethic and strategic acumen quickly set him apart.

By 2013, he was hired as a full-time assistant coach at Central Michigan University, where he contributed to the team’s offensive line development. His role expanded as he assumed the offensive line coach position, showcasing his ability to cultivate talent and adapt to various offensive schemes.

In 2018, Moore returned to Michigan, where his coaching prowess began to gain broader recognition. Under the leadership of head coach Jim Harbaugh, Moore served as the co-offensive line coach, and his contributions were pivotal in revitalizing the Wolverines' offensive line.

His impact was evident in the significant improvements in both pass protection and run blocking. His ability to develop players, including helping groom future NFL talent, solidified his reputation.

Moore's rise continued when he was promoted to the offensive coordinator position at Michigan in 2021. This role allowed him to further influence the Wolverines’ offensive strategy and execution. His offensive schemes contributed to a successful period for Michigan football, including significant wins and a notable presence in the College Football Playoff.
