The saga around Deuce Knight and Notre Dame doesn't seem to want to end, but it needs to, and quickly

For the second straight week, Notre Dame 2025 quarterback commit Deuce Knight will be visiting Auburn for their matchup against Cal, which was first reported by Steve Wiltfong of On3. Obviously this is an extremely bad sign for the Irish, but something they have been expecting over the past few weeks.

In terms of a decommitment or flip happening, this feels like just a matter of time. In fact, some folks thought that decision could have come last weekend. And out of respect to the Notre Dame program and its fans, it probably should have.

Losing a big time quarterback is never a good thing. In the case of Knight, he is an incredible talent at the position. At 6-5 and 205 pounds, with game breaking speed and a big arm, you don’t see quarterbacks around South Bend often that look like Knight. Barring a major change of heart, you won’t in the near future either.

After a while, most Notre Dame fans have had acceptance about the situation. If Knight doesn’t want to be a part of the program, that’s fine. Ultimately that’s his decision. It’s the dishonesty and process that has been frustrating along the way.

People have been anticipating a decommitment for weeks now, and it is still silent. What’s the hold up? The longer you string this move along, the more disrespectful it is for those who have valued you so highly. Notre Dame is going to have to reset and find their next quarterback to help save the 2025 recruiting class. Stalling for no reason doesn’t do anyone any good.

The Irish staff has done everything right by Knight throughout his recruitment, and especially while being committed. It’s tough that it’ll probably end this way, but pulling the band aid off quickly instead of avoiding it is best for the Notre Dame fans. Let this saga end.

I'm protestant, but I would be honored to play for Notre Dame, except for when they play navy, anchors away
