Bears second-year wide receiver surprisingly listed among inactive players for Week 1

The Chicago Bears have released the inactive list for Week 1 against the Tennessee Titans leading up to kick off and included a surprising name.

Second-year wide receiver Tyler Scott will not play against the Titans later today, Scott was not listed at all on the team's injury report during the week.

Roschon Johnson, Kiran Amegadjie, Bill Murray, Noah Sewell, Dominque Robinson, and Zacch Pickens will be the other inactive Bears for the regular season opener.

If Scott is a true healthy inactive for Sunday's game, that will be a huge turn of events for the young pass catcher. Scott turned a lot of heads during the offseason while learning his second offensive playbook in as many years.

Scott was listed as the fourth wide receiver on the team's unofficial depth chart released this week behind DJ Moore, Keenan Allen, and Rome Odunze. Here's what offensive coordinator Shane Waldron had to say about Scott back in July.

"Since I've been around Tyler, he has put his head down and worked hard," Waldron said . "You can see his twitchiness, his speed that he can use to get into the defense, he has done a great job as far as his knowledge of the playbook and the system, transitioning from one offense to the next this year. I think he just keeps going out and competing every single day. He's right in the mix and making some nice plays in practice and ready to go and he'll have his shot."

With Scott listed as an inactive, the Bears will instead roll with Deandre Carter as the team's fourth wide receiver. Carter will also be serving as the team's starting punt returner , which ultimately gave him the edge over Scott.

The team will also have Velus Jones Jr. available to use in a multitude of ways on offense. Jones has been practicing with the wide receivers and the running backs over the last few weeks. With Johnson out after missing a bunch of time in camp, expect to see the Bears use Jones out of the backfield later today.

Robinson being a healthy inactive was also an expected move after DeMarcus Walker and Darrell Taylor were listed as active, despite being questionable going into the weekend. Taylor being active is especially notable considering he missed practice Friday with a foot injury suffered on Thursday. He was seen during pregame warmups testing out the injury.

With Robinson out, it's clear that Daniel Hardy, who had a strong preseason, beat out Robinson for the role and will be available to rotate in off the edge along with promising fifth-round rookie Austin Booker.

The following players will be inactive for the Titans : Jamal Adams, Otis Reese, John Ojukwu, David Martin-Robinson, Thomas Odukoya and Ali Gaye. Star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who was listed as questionable with an MCL tear will play.
