Although there was plenty to be happy about with the Dallas Cowboys' dominant win over the Cleveland Brown on Sunday, there's one blemish to it that will keep fans preoccupied until an official update comes through:

Tight end Jake Ferguson suffered a knee injury in the second half and didn't return to the game after being designated as questionable to return.

Although Ferguson will receive an MRI and an update likely awaits us on Monday, there's reason for optimism based on Ferguson himself, who commented postgame that he felt he could've played through the injury, per Calvin Watkins from The Dallas Morning News.

For Ferguson to even say he could've played is very telling, as it hints at the injury not being nearly as serious as many might fear. Now granted, Ferguson could just be acting tough, but this happened after he was checked out by the medical staff. Additionally, per Patrik Walker from DallasCowboys.com, Ferguson was spotted postgame with no brace around his knee and no crutches.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy also claimed Ferguson was in good spirits and noted that the young tight end was moving well in the locker room.

If you needed any more reassurance, Dak Prescott also added via The Athletic's Jon Machota : "I think we dodged a big one. Talking to him, he gave me a lot of confidence that he’ll be OK.”

UPDATE: NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Ferguson is not believed to have torn his ACL.

Jake Ferguson is highly important for the Cowboys offense

Now, we wait until an official update. One thing is for sure, though: Ferguson is huge for the 2024 Cowboys offense.

Despite a quiet day in Cleveland in which he only recorded three receptions for fifteen yards, he could realistically be the second-best target for Prescott behind wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. In his first year as a full-time starter, Ferguson piled up 761 yards and five touchdowns. His third year in the NFL is expected to be a breakout year for him as he pushes to become a household name for the entire league.

A knee injury would obviously complicate such efforts. As we wait for a bigger update on Monday, the early optimism shown by the Cowboys so far should ease everyone's concerns to a certain degree.
