Former Eagles All-Pro Haason Reddick to face hefty fine skipping Week 1 amid contract holdout

Former Philadelphia Eagles and current New York Jets All-Pro pass rusher Haason Reddick wants to get paid what he deserves and he's going to extreme lengths to get that.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports just hours before the Jets' Monday Night Football game against the San Francisco 49ers that Reddick will sit out amid his contract holdout, which will cost him a hefty price.

"Jets hold-out edge rusher Haason Reddick will forfeit a game of check of nearly $800,000 for missing tonight’s regular-season opener vs. the 49ers, and an additional nearly $800,000 for each game he subsequently misses," Schefter wrote on X/Twitter. "This is on top of more than $5 million in NFL-mandated fines that he already has accumulated."

Reddick was initially looking for a new deal from Philly this offseason, but when the two sides couldn't come to an agreement, he was traded to the Jets in exchange for a 2026 conditional third-round pick.

Then Reddick's contract became New York's problem.

Per ESPN , the Jets knew Reddick wanted a long-term deal before trading for him, but thought they could 'make the relationship work' instead of offering him more money.

That didn't go as planned for them.

Reddick skipped the entirety of the Jets' offseason and recently requested to be traded, which general manager Joe Douglas denied the request.

Reddick, 29, is due a non-guaranteed $14.25 million in 2024, the final year of his three-year, $45 million contract that he signed with the Eagles in 2022. That deal looks like a bargain now for one of the only players in the league to record 10 or more sacks over the last four seasons.
