The hype around Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith almost reached the point of unbelievable this offseason. However, two games into Smith's freshman season, and it's clear the 5-star recruit is destined for amazing things. Smith is already leading the Buckeyes with 11 receptions for 211 yards and three touchdowns.

Alongside his impressive 19.2-yard average, Smith has balanced contested catches with catch-and-run production. His 70-yard touchdown went viral this week as he pulled away from defenders from a dead stop. Now, we have context for just how fast the 6-foot-3, 215-pounder.

Reel Analytics is one of the best video tools available to the public. They GPS-time players across the country and provide video breakdowns of speed. Check out their video on Smith:

Smith landed as the second-fastest player in the country in Week 2, trailing Clemson's Bryant Wesco Jr. by .2 seconds. Wesco raced to a 76-yard touchdown up the seam in the Tigers' beatdown against Appalachian State.

But Smith also entered quite rare NFL times with his 21.7 mph mark. Next Gen Stats tracks the speed of every NFL player, and only six plays in 2023 had faster peaks of miles per hour. Two of those were from Devon Achane, and one was from Tyreek Hill.

Hill, who had three spots in the top nine and is regarded as the fastest player in the NFL, topped out at 22.01 miles per hour. That was the third-fastest top-end speed of last season, trailing Chase Brown and DK Metcalf.

Smith wasn't too far behind, and considering he didn't have a full runway off the line, maybe he could get an even better mark at some point this season.
