The Chicago Bears had many standout players who made their presence known in a big way during the team's Week 1 comeback victory against the Tennessee Titans.

The best player of the afternoon for Matt Eberflus' defense once again seemingly had a quite day until it was time to close out the game by making a statement play.

That player was, of course, star cornerback Jaylon Johnson, who did his thing during the season opener by completely locking down his side of the field on every play.

After receiving All-Pro votes and being named to his first career Pro Bowl, Johnson promised that his elite level of play was only scratching the surface. He held true to that promise in his first game of the 2024 season.

Johnson was only targeted three times during the entire game while playing 59 coverage snaps. He only allowed one completion for -2 yards. According to Pro Football Focus, Johnson's 92.0 coverage grade leads all defensive players with 10+ coverage snaps going into Monday Night Football. In 2023, Johnson's 91.0 coverage grade led all players at his position .

Johnson's best play of the game against the Titans wasn't the game-sealing interception. His best play occurred in the second quarter going up against Titans wide receiver Calvin Ridley.

On the play, Ridley had a step on Johnson after a double-move, but Johnson quickly recovered and gained the ground back on Ridley before knocking the ball away on the nine-yard line. After the game, Johnson expressed his frustration for not coming away with a turnover on that specific play.

"I know I'm not going to get too many opportunities, so everyone I get gotta be an interception," Johnson told reporters the locker room . "I'm just glad God gave me another opportunity to get one back."

When that next opportunity came Johnson's way, he made sure to capitalize on it in the biggest moment of the game. Down seven with 1:15 remaining on 4th-and-10, the Titans offense needed to make a play to keep their chances of winning the game alive. Instead, Titans quarterback Will Levis opted to try Johnson down the right sideline and the lock down cornerback made him pay the price.

Less than a week before his incredible performance to open the season, Johnson noted that he's " done buying into the hype " and wanted to prove it on the field. In Week 1, the defense led by their top defensive back were able to do that in a big way when it was all said and done.
