Sherrone Moore provides key update on the Michigan quarterback room moving forward after loss to Texas

It's tough to bounce back from a 31-12 loss at home, but Michigan's players and coaches are back at this week trying to move forward. But how will Michigan actually find success moving forward? And which quarterback(s) will step up to fix their broken offense? Sherrone Moore provided us with some key quarterback updates on Monday.

When asked about bouncing back from the loss to Texas, Sherrone Moore said, "We don't want this to beat us twice. So we're going to make sure we do what we can to get better today." Michigan certainly has a lot of "getting better" to do after two weeks of their offense sputtering down the field at the least efficient rate in the Big Ten.

So far neither Davis Warren nor Alex Orji have looked competent enough to lead Michigan's offense through the air or on the ground. How did Michigan seriously think they didn't need to add a transfer quarterback this off-season?

"For us it was, the quarterbacks we had here we felt pretty comfortable with. And those guys performed well in the spring and did a good job...We had a good read on who we wanted to get and what we wanted to do. And for us, it was, for us to be successful, and keep our culture, and keep our team the right way we have the quarterbacks we have here. We still feel like we can win with our quarterbacks, have confidence in our quarterbacks. And for us to be successful it's not just the quarterback. Everybody around them has to perform at a good level."

Moore made it sound like the team actually did look at a few potential options in the Transfer Portal, but ultimately chose to stick with their guys to maintain their winning culture. Moore wanted it to sound like he still has confidence in his quarterback(s) now, but spent a good bit deflecting the blame and trying to redirect attention elsewhere.

On Davis Warren specifically, Moore liked what he saw in a few instances against Texas, and hopes to build upon this past week's performance, but again deflected to more of a focus on the team.

"I thought Davis did a good job, especially at the end...it's easy in a game like that for guys to just stop playing or not want to fight. Those guys fought, they kept playing, and they kept playing. Davis escaped out the pocket and did some good things making some throws on the run. So yeah, definitely something we can build on for him."

When asked about whether or not we would see more opportunities for Alex Orji, Moore said that it's "all going to be about how he practices" this week. And he stressed that it's always been that way. "Who practices the best plays the best," as Moore put it.

Jack Tuttle has also apparently been throwing more and should be good to go for their next game too, adding more mud to the waters as to which quarterback Michigan may choose to trust in the near future.

It sounds like Moore still has some degree of confidence in all three quarterbacks, so if things continue to fall off a cliff with Davis Warren at the helm we very well might get more Orji, Tuttle, or perhaps both.

Either way, Michigan cannot keep averaging less than five yards per play with a passing attacked ranked outside the Top 100 in FBS. There's going to be a change made very soon. Whether that's in the play from Warren (and Orji) on the field, or one involving a complete change of quarterback by the coaching staff. Michigan's standards are too high to put up with the mess they've put on the field thus far on offense.
